8) Have fun! Diviertete!

9) Basura!

Organizing stand at Universities
“Health days” at the UNAB (Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga) gave the Red Cross an opportunity to have a stand about first aid and to talk about their work here in Bucaramanga. We used the day to learn the youth about first aid, but also to invite them to start the volunteer course in May.
During the day we had over 140 people how received first aid instruction. We also came back to the office with a list of 250 that wants’ more information about the activities and courses we have here.
We are happy for the results and now waiting to see some new faces in may to help us do a bigger job for the communities.
Tips about how to make a great stand (linked to the photos over):
1) Take with you tape! And think about everything handy you need to make a good visible stand. (Poster, brochure, pens)
2) Have a good group of people that are coming with a lot of good spirit!
3) Have something to get the attention. Be creative. Here we had with us skilled people that had first aid instruction to get the attention. This worked really well. So we had a lot of people at our stand all the time. It’s important to mention that you have to ask promotion also for the dolls and equipment beforehand.
4) Divide into different tasks. And prepare everybody on what the task includes. Like we had one responsible for food, one for writing contact list, one to talk to people, one responsible for photo and counting how many volunteers that came by our stand. The last two made instructions. (This depends on how many you are how you divide, but it’s really good to have a clear list).
5) It can be an idea to switch tasks during the stand, so the volunteers can do different thing, not always the same. This is also a chance to be better at different things.
6) Taking to the people! This is really important that you have somebody walking around and ready to talk about what activities the branch have and question they may have. Be ready! They may have all kinds of questions. Take with you brochures to show them what you do in your local branch.
7) If they don’t come to you. You can go to them! Question to begin with: “Do you know the activities the Red Cross have?” “What does to Red Cross do?” “Have you heard that Red Cross focuses on prevention?” “Do you know about the work Red Cross do on prevention of violent?” Here you can be creative, and try to get a conversation about the projects you have in your branch. Talk about what you do.
8) Have fun!
9) Remember to clean up the area; it shall look like before you came!
